Le Club Royal des Officiers du Régiment des Guides
The house situated 32 rue d'Arlon had been the officers' mess of the 1st Guide Regiment since about 1885, barracked in the Quartier de Witte de Haelen (Etterbeek). In 1945, the 1st Guide Regiment being stationned in occupied Germany, the Officers' Mess at 32 rue d'Arlon would no longer be active in Brussels.
To safeguard the heritage of the Regiment and maintain a link between the officers of the active and the reserve, Lieutenant General Chevalier van Strydonck de Burkel, dean of the Former Chiefs of Corps, asked several former officers of the Regiment to join him in the he idea of creating a club that could make up for the lack of Mess activity for a few years. This was achieved in 1947 with the idea that the "occupation" in Germany, as in 1918, would only last for a limited time. But this time gave way to the "cold war" and the 1st Guide Regiment remained in Germany until 1994, when it was dissolved.
The Club, created in 1947, still exists today under the name "Royal Club of Officers of the Regiment of Guides", and has set itself the goal of developing the spirit of regimental camaraderie and to allow access to all those who are sensitive to the values that it underlies.
